Hitter of the Week
Joe Serrano: The junior left fielder from Tuscon, AZ has been hitting in the second spot in the lineup all season and had a break out performance this weekend to lead the Hogs' offense. Serrano hit .538 (7-13), blasted 3 doubles and drove in 4 runs. He also stole a base and drew a walk while posting a .571 on base percentage and .769 slugging percentage. Serrano has shown great plate awareness in his career only striking out 42 times in 292 at bats. He is a true free swinger and puts the ball in play in most of his appearances while only taking 22 walks at Arkansas.
Pitcher of the Week
Jackson Lowery: Lowery is a redshirt junior transfer by way of Meridian Community College who found a spot in the middle of the bullpen as a Razorback. After graduating from Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, he signed with Central Arkansas before trying the JUCO route. Lowery came on in the last game of the double header Saturday to hold South Alabama to 1 hit and 1 unearned run to keep the game close enough for potential hope of a come back. He also walked a batter and struck out 2, showing a lot of grit to find ways to get batters out in a game where outs were hard to come by.
Freshman of the Week
Zach Jackson: Along with his second Freshman of the Week honor in a row, Jackson may have solidified his role as coach Dave Van Horn's go to reliever to come in and pitch quality innings when a starter is struggling. This week he pitched 2.2 innings giving up 1 unearned run, 0 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts. It was another outing in which he came in to slow the bats of the opponent after the starting pitcher had struggled a little to get outs. Jackson has now thrown 8.2 innings this season without giving up an unearned run. You can bet his mid 90s velocity and hard slider will be heavily relied upon until proven ineffective.
Tip of the Cap
Brett McAfee: The junior from Longview, Texas provided timely hitting going 5-10 with a double, 3 RBI, and a run scored. McAfee has been swinging it well all year and now owns a .321 average going into the 4th week of the season. His offense is a much needed shot in the arm on this team from the short stop position.
Krisjon Wilkerson: The man just continues to hit. He added 5 more hits in only 7 at bats with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Wilkerson also walked 3 times and was hit by a pitch to carry his on base percentage up to .818 for the weekend. In just 6 games Wilkerson is hitting .556 with a .1320 on base plus slugging percentage.
